Chemotherapy as an important therapy for gynaecological cancer needs nurses’ high performances. Thus, remuneration as a factor influencing nurses’ work motivation needs to be considered. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions and expectations of chemotherapy nurses in gynaecology wards about remuneration. This study was a qualitative research with phenomenological design. Data were collected by FGD involving 15 chemotherapy nurses in a hospital in Indonesia. The themes produced were as follows: (1) Nurses perceived themselves as chemotherapy nurses with special knowledge and skills and high-risk job, (2) Chemotherapy nurses perceived that the remuneration system is not transparent, unfair, and demotivate them, (3) Chemotherapy nurses expected that the remuneration system could be implemented fairly and transparently, with support of adequate information system. It is recommended to improve the implementation of the remuneration with an appropriate information system, in order to increase chemotherapy nurses’ work performance in gynaecology services. © 2020 Elsevier España, S.L.U.
