This review provides a comprehensive analysis of LSA 99Mo adsorbent materials and their adsorption performance, with a particular focus on synthesis methods, the adsorption behavior of LSA 99Mo, and the interaction mechanisms between 99Mo species and the adsorbents. We synthesize research findings based on the textural properties and 99Mo affinities of reported adsorbents. The principal interaction modes include electrostatic attraction, ion exchange, and complexation which are systematically evaluated. We also examine the effects of textural properties, such as surface area, pore size, and pore volume, on Mo adsorption capacities, and discuss adsorption models to elucidate the underlying adsorption processes. Overall, biosorbents and zirconium- and cerium-based adsorbents exhibit superior Mo uptake and have attracted substantial attention. This review supports the development of effective LSA 99Mo adsorbents for 99Mo/99mTc generator and advances understanding of Mo adsorption mechanisms in relevant material systems. © Akadémiai Kiadó Zrt 2026.
