Abstrak
Indonesia has entered a phase of population ageing, with the percentage of the elderly population continuing to increase and reaching 12% in 2024. The increase in elderly population raises challenges, namely poverty and ageism, that limit the elderly's opportunities to participate in society. These challenges can be overcome by providing opportunities for the elderly to play an active role in development, for them to carry out social functions, and be active in society. This article aims to describe the efforts to improve the participation of the elderly in rural development, by focusing on one village that shows the efforts to create space for the elderly to participate in rural development. This article used a qualitative approach with in-depth interview data collection techniques involving eight informants from the NGO, Village Government Administrators, and the community. The results showed several efforts to improve the participation of the elderly in rural development, including assistance for the Curug Village Government Administrators, involvement of the Curug Village community as Elderly Cadres, organizing the elderly, and facilitating the delivery of elderly’s voices. The implication of this article is to contribute to developing regulations and intervention methods that prioritize the participation of the elderly in rural development.
