Abstrak
Background: Mental health literacy is knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders that help identify, manage, or prevent them and can be used to take beneficial actions for individual mental health. Purpose: This study aims to determine the level of mental health literacy of regular undergraduate students at Andalas University with related factors. Methods: This study used secondary data from the 2019 Health Literacy Study using a sample of 2018 class students from 15 faculties at Andalas University (n=363). Measurement of mental health literacy is carried out using the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS) instrument which has been adapted to the cultural context and the Indonesian language. Results: The average score for mental health literacy is relatively low, namely 59.96 on a scale of 1-100. Bivariate analysis shows that the determinants that are significantly associated with mental health literacy are gender, ethnicity, residence status, dating status, knowledge background, and ownership of health insurance. The results of the multivariate analysis show that the variables associated with the level of mental health literacy are knowledge cluster, ownership of health insurance and partner/dating status. Which is the dominant variable is the health science family. Conclusion: Interventions are needed to increase mental health literacy that focuses on topics related to male students and non-health students through increased education and the development and utilization of mental health information centers at Andalas University. © 2023, Muhammadiyah Palu University.
