Abstrak
Introduction: Routine placement of temporary epicardial pacing wire following surgery of congenital heart disease (CHD) has been performed since the past few decades, although the use in postoperative setting were not always needed. The objective of the study is to describe the characteristic of pacing wire use in postoperative CHD surgery in the pediatric and congenital heart surgery department of National Cardiovascular Centre Harapan Kita Jakarta.Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study were done in the patient whom had been placed temporary epicardial pacing wires following CHD surgery in the pediatric and congenital department of National Cardiovascular Centre Harapan Kita Jakarta from October until December 2013. Results were shown in table of percentage and median. Descriptive statistic was analyzed using Mann-Whitney test. Results: 126 temporary epicardial pacing wires placement were performed following CHD surgeries, only 12 (9.5%) patient needed the use of pacing postoperative. Most location of use was during operation extended to the intensive care unit stay in 6 (50%) patient. Most indication was AV Block (50%). Patient that used pacing wires postoperative had longer cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time than those who weren’t [158 (65-540) vs 95 (30-310); P= 0.011]. Aortic cross clamp (AoX) time were found longer as well in patients that used pacing wires postoperative compared to those who weren’t [108 (27-265) vs 55 (4-233); P= 0.042].
