Abstrak
Regular exercise has both physiological and psychological benefits. Exercise routine can be explained by force of habit, which is an underlying automatic process of performing behavior in response to contextual cues. Several studies have found a relationship between selfcontrol and the habit of self-determined motivation to exercise. This study tested the moderating effect of self-determined motivation in the relationship between self-control and exercise routine. A sample of Indonesian people between 18-25 years old (N = 436) were asked to complete three online measures: The Brief Self-Control Scale; the Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire; and the Self-Report Habit Index, which had been translated into Indonesian. The results showed that self-control (b =.32, t (432) = 4.89, p <.01) and self-determined motivation (b =.27, t (432) = 11.28, p <.01) significantly predict exercise routine in the Indonesian sample. However, selfdetermined motivation had no significant moderation effect on the relationship between self-control and exercise routine (b =.00, t (432) = 1.27, p >.05). Discussion, limitations, and suggestions from this study are presented at the end of this report. © 2020 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
