Abstrak
The adoption of solar energy as a sustainable and renewable energy source has significantly grown due to its abundant availability and global reach. However, the intermittent nature of solar irradiance presents a notable disadvantage for electricity grids that depend on photovoltaic (PV) systems. Hence, obtaining precise solar irradiance data is essential to maintain a steady level of energy production. Geostationary satellite imagery has become a practical solution to tackle this issue, as it provides a comprehensive collection of solar irradiance data on a large scale and over a long period of time. Satellite imagery has been predominantly used to estimate Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) by employing physical and semi-empirical models. Nevertheless, there is a restricted quantity of research that has specifically concentrated on constructing models for GHI in Indonesia using semi-empirical methodologies. Therefore, this study conducted a feasibility assessment to evaluate the most suitable semi-empirical model for estimating GHI in Indonesia. Hence, Perez model was selected to estimate the GHI in the Jakarta region of Indonesia, based on their appropriateness and applicability. After conducting simulation, it was determined that the Perez model can be candidate, as indicated by its lowest relative root mean square error (rRMSE) of around 58.6%. © 2025 IEEE.
