Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) establishes a direct relationship between farmers and consumers, fostering a fairer and more sustainable food system. Research demonstrates that CSAs offer many benefits, such as restoring farm ecosystems, improving farmers’ quality of life, providing nutritious food for CSA members, and strengthening connections between farmers and the members. Despite those benefits, many CSAs encounter challenges that hinder their potential. Therefore, understanding these challenges is important in sustaining this model. In Bandung City, Indonesia, CSA Tani Sauyunan (CTS) was founded by Seni Tani. CTS adopted CSA principles to solve socio-economic problems prevalent in the region. Based on a qualitative study conducted from 2022 to 2023, supplemented by interviews and site visits in 2024 and 2025, this article critically examines the practice of CTS, the challenges it encountered, and the broader implications on the sustainability of the CSA model. This study reveals that the CSA model is not singular and static. It is shaped by the unique relationships among producers, consumers, and the land, influenced by social, economic, and environmental contexts. It evolves with the knowledge and experiences of those involved, as well as changes in perspectives and conditions. © 2025 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
