Introduction: One out of five children in Indonesia is reported to experience stunting. Stunting causes children to have a height that is not appropriate for their age, cognitive development delays and increase the risk of non-communicable diseases in adulthood. Objective: This systematic review analyzes the influence of animal protein intake on the occurrence of stunting in toddlers. Method: This research is a systematic review design. Articles were searched through electronic databases including PUBMED, EMBASE, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar published between 2013-2023, with criteria based on the PICO framework. The search results from the databases are presented using a PRISMA flow diagram. Result: Based on the analysis, 11 out of 14 articles show a relationship between animal protein intake and the occurrence of stunting in toddlers. Stunting toddlers had lower mean of animal protein intake compared to non-stunting toddlers. The types diversity of animal protein consumed by toddlers also correlates with the risk of stunting. Conclusion: Toddlers who do not consume animal protein have a higher risk of experiencing stunting. The more diverse the animal protein sources consumed, the lower the chances of toddlers experiencing stunting. © 2024, Muhammadiyah Palu University. All rights reserved.
