Indonesia is one of the initiator countries for REDD+. After 16 years of its establishment, a relevant question is: how has Indonesia fared in its REDD+ implementation? This chapter aims to review REDD+ in Indonesia in terms of governance and technicalities and to present an onward-looking view for ramping up mitigation measures. A successful REDD+ would require effective governance, including harmonized and enabling policies, inter-sectoral coordination, inclusive participation, and workable mechanisms toward results-based management, preferably using an entire nexus approach. The landscape approach may help capture these complexities and ensure effective interplay between sectoral and vertical coordination. In the holistic context of internalizing costs, benefits, and trade-offs, the whole-system approach presented a concrete opportunity to realize the national climate change mitigation (and adaptation) measures. The landscape approach may effectively capture and synergize REDD+. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Akihisa Mori and Alin Halimatussadiah; individual chapters, the contributors.
