Existing enterprise architecture (EA) frameworks tend to have drawbacks such as being complex, cumbersome, and highly. focused on documentation and is difficult to implement directly without customization. Agile enterprise architecture (agile EA) is believed to address the challenges of contemporary EA development. This study aims to critically review Agile Enterprise Architecture (Agile EA) research in the context of digital transformation, focusing on how agility is conceptualized, operationalized, and evaluated across existing frameworks and models. The materials of this study consist of peer-reviewed journal articles indexed in Scopus published between 2012 and 2025. This research begins with a thorough, current systematic literature review employing the PRISMA methodology and a bibliometric analysis tool that generates visualizations, followed by data extraction and synthesis using thematic analysis. Based on a bibliometric and thematic analysis of the 65 identified papers, several insights emerged. Thus, this study makes several contributions, including (i) recognizing the contributions made by EA research with an agile approach, (ii) three types of agile EA frameworks or models resulting from several studies. Building on the insights and limitations identified in this review, future research should treat Agile Enterprise Architecture (Agile EA) frameworks as evolving constructs that require continuous refinement in response to both theoretical developments and practical demands. Greater emphasis is needed on empirical investigations that examine how Agile EA aligns with organizational culture, governance, leadership, and digital transformation readiness, particularly within specific national and institutional contexts. © 2026, Politeknik Negeri Padang.
